Benefit Concert Guy Louis @ The Penn Theatre Presented by the Rotary Club of Plymouth A.M. Saturday, January 5, 2008
To see the video, go to:
“Picture a group of children dancing on a stage; live music is performed, and children of all ages smile, giggle, thrive, and what you see is a group of children—any or all children. Now re-focus your view, these children come from a background of disabilities, and this stage, on this past Saturday, at the Penn Theater in Plymouth, contained a group of happy children, whom no matter what their special needs, are allowed to thrive with their peers in a safe and welcome environment, one they can ambulate, and interact with their non-disabled peers. Isn’t this their right? To live, explore, and play like any other child? Now, picture a school yard, with old swings and rusted climbers. These same kids are unable to participate completely, at a playground, at their very own school, Tanger Center. The concert they enjoyed, offers them the opportunity of a state of an art field, at Tanger, where all in the community can come, enjoy, and grow. Those who sponsored this concert, Plymouth AM Rotary, and others, are raising funds to build a field where my son with autism, and your aunt with multiple sclerosis, and my nieces, who have no disabilities, can interact together, safely, and laugh and grow, in a garden of acceptance and safety; where children in a wheelchair can safely ambulate trails and platforms—how awesome is that?! The performer of Saturday’s concert at the Penn, the incredible musician, Guy Lewis, believes so much in Tanger Fields and the children to whom he bestowed such happiness dancing on the stage with him, that he generously gave his own concert fee back into Tanger Fields. And as a mom whose son with autism was up on that stage, dancing with other children, without sensory overload or breakdown, I say please support Tanger Field, so that all children can experience, daily, the magic that was illuminated on the Penn Theatre Stage on January 5, 2008.” Dawn Ham-Kucharski
The Benefit Concert for Tanger School Playground & other Rotary Projects presented by Rotary Club of Plymouth A.M. and starring Guy Louis at the Penn Theatre, Saturday, January 5, 2008 was a great success … and a lot of fun, too. Guy Louis brought his magic to Plymouth once again. Children and adults had a wonderful time. Thanks to all who supported this concert: Attendees, Sponsors and Rotarians. This playground will be built with dollars, in-kind donations. This playground will reflect creativity, inventiveness and generosity. This playground will be built by dreamers with a nickel and angels who think this is a project worth supporting. A special partner in this endeavor are little dolls stitched and sewn with love and caring, called Tanger Tots. "Thanks to all of the sponsors and to all of those who attended. Plymouth AM Rotary--you rock!"Dawn, mother of Alex Ham Kucharski
Tanger School , part of the Plymouth-CantonSchool district, houses "the Infant/Preschool Special Education Program, which serves the needs of infants and young children with disabilities from birth to six years of age. The focus of service is on the child as a member of the family unit, and intervention is multidisciplinary in nature. A variety of professionals (including teachers, speech and language therapists, occupational and physical therapists, school nurse, psychologist, and social worker) provide evaluation and services in the school or home setting."
Tanger School has been offering educational and therapeutic services for children and support for families. Now, Tanger School Staff and Rotary Club of Plymouth A.M. are happy to announce plans for Tanger Fields: a therapeutic playground, park and wetlands - woodlot . which encompasses the entire outdoor area surrounding Tanger School. Currently there are very few play items on the playground at Tanger School. The Tanger Fields Playground Project hopes to change that. Our goal to not just to add playground equipment, but to transform an empty field into a environment that offers Therapeutic, Educational, Accessible, Recreational Fun for children who attend Tanger School and to all the children.
Rotary has been working on this project for two years. Every aspect of the design was carefully chosen by Tanger Staff, Rotarians, and landscape architect, Carey Baker, Beckett & Raeder. The plans, created by Carey Baker, landscape architect with Beckett and Raeder, and Tanger School staff are truly breathtaking. Carey designed the plans pro bono
Can Rotary Club of Plymouth A.M. really build this playground? It will take a lot of people with a dream, many friends, and a few angels who are willing to donate the dollars which will buy a share in a place where children can play and fly and dream of what they are going to be when they grow up.
Imagine a gathering place for the entire community, accessible to all, with activities designed especially for children with special needs . their brothers and sisters, parents and grandparents. That's what Tanger Fields will be.
There was a special surprise for those who attended the concert: Tanger Tots were introduced. Each doll is hand sewn. Each Tanger Tot is different, an individual, with its own personality, loveable and very cute. Tanger Tots are the creation of Jennifer Philpot Munson, especially to benefit Tanger Fields. (Jennifer is the executive director of the Plymouth Symphony. And Jennifer is one of the people who saved the Penn Theatre.)

Tanger School to Benefit Twice!
The Plymouth Rotary A.M. Webkinz raffle drawing went off without a hitch last Friday as part of the official holiday season launch in Kellogg Park. The drawing, to benefit TangerSchool, as well as other Plymouth Rotary A.M. projects, was a huge success. With 30 Webkinz being raffled - all to the same winning ticket - it was clear that the lucky winner was going to have a lot of Webkinz on his or her hands. Webkinz, of course, are the lovable, plush pets that each come with a unique secret code and have charmed children since they were introduced. The winning ticket holder was Robert Lake of Plymouth. When contacted, he had no recollection of even buying the ticket. In a heart-warming coincidence, it turns out that he purchased the ticket while attending yet another community fundraiser - this one a Kiwanis outing at Fox Hills Golf and Country Club in June! "We are going to keep two of the Webkinz," Mr. Lake commented. "We will donate the other 33 to Tanger school. My wife worked at Tanger for the Headstart program for twenty years, so this was an easy decision." Beth Stewart, Plymouth Rotary A.M. president gushed about the peculiar course of events. It is just so gratifying to see how committed our residents are to our community. We could not have scripted a better outcome!" Mr. Lake, and his wife, Betty, were invited to the Plymouth Rotary A.M.'s Tuesday morning 7:00 a.m. meeting to pick up their winnings and participate in the morning's session.
